Gao Cunhai, Ph.D., P. Geo., visiting research fellow and doctoral tutor in our Institute. He graduated from the Department of Geography of Xinjiang University majoring in natural geography in 1984. In 1987 he was awarded Master's degree in landform and Quaternary geology by Xingjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography under the CAS. From 1987 to 1992 he worked at the Institute and from 1992 to 1997 he pursued his doctorate in Cambridge University, England. Now he serves at Ontario Geological Survey and is a professional geoscientist certified in the province. His research field covers sedimentology, Quaternary geology and palaeoclimate change. He joined a comprehensive scientific expedition (1987) to Taklamakan Desert organized by the CAS-Ministry of Petroleum, comprehensive scientific expedition to Kunlun Mountains –Karakorum Mountain(1988) by the CAS as well as China-Pakistan joint expedition to the south slope of Karakorum Mountain(1989). At present his research projects cover the impact of abrupt climate change in the late glacial period in the south of England upon the rivers, extremely flood in the last inter-glacial period in the Northwestern Europe versus climate, ancient frozen earth relics in the eastern part of North America and climate change, Late tertiary glacial sediment and climate evolution.
